Yesterday sucked.

I started working on the kitchen sink around 10 a.m.
I was hoping to reuse all the old sink parts since I replaced them not too long ago.
By noon I realized that nothing would work and had finally gotten all the bits and pieces unattached from each other.
WD-40 is my friend.
I made my first trip to the hardware store.
I start putting all my new bits and pieces together and realize that I forgot to buy an extra slip joint.
I go back to the hardware store.
I got everything taped, put together and tightened. Now to test the leakiness.
Leak #1 at the first joint.
Tightened some more.
Still leaks.
I say ugly words.
I tightened it some more.
It still leaks.
I take the whole thing apart.
I readjust the washer.
I put everything back together.
Test the leaks.
No leaks, but maybe I didn't have enough water.
Go get bigger container with more water and . . .
Leak #1 doesn't leak!!!!
but leak #2 shows up. :(
Leak #2 is at the joint where pipe #1 meets the sink drain.
I gave up trying to replace that the first time because I couldn't get the nut to budge.
So I spray it down with WD-40 and wait a few minutes.
I get the nut to turn.
I get more test water.
The water pours down the outside of the pipe.
I check to make sure I tightened and not loosened the nut.
Yes, I turned the right way.
I check the sink and realize that in my turning, I have stripped the threads off the pipe.
I have a metal curly cue in the drain.
I use more ugly words.
I go to the hardware store for the third time.
I buy a new extension pipe and a new sink drain (just in case).
I take everything apart again.
I get the pipe off and thank myself for buying the new sink drain because I have destroyed the old one.
But getting the old drain out is impossible because I can't get the washer to turn.
WD-40 is no help.
I pull out the Dremel and cut the washer off.
I pry off a metal washer, a rubber washer and have to use the hammer to get the rest of the drain to pop out of the sink.
I would bet money that all this hasn't been removed since 1924.
Finally with a new drain and all new pipes put together I do water test # who knows.
No leaks!!!!!!!
Now to reattach the faucet.
I did remember to turn off the water.
I started to put on the first bits of faucet parts and realized that the old backsplash was a lot thicker than the new one.
If I put the faucet on like this it will be 2 inches from the wall.
Damn, damn, damn.
I need to go back to the hardware store for new pipe nipples.
So at 8:30 last night, I gave up.
I just couldn't make another trip to the hardware store.
I'm off to do that as soon as I shower.
At least the faucet won't be as problematic as the sink. Fingers crossed that it isn't.

[livejournal.com profile] ajayne, I owe you an email that I will do as soon as I finish the faucet.
