Amazing!

I just got an Evite for a Christmas shindig from friends who live in LA.
Of course, it is on the 10th so I'm not going.
However, I was amazed at the number of people who responded and said they would be there.
A grand total of 77 so far.
Let me also point out that they invited 300 people!
OK, so about 100 people haven't responded so far, but I don't think I know 300 people that I would invite to my house. The other part that I'm amazed by (and perhaps a bit envious) is that they have barely lived in LA six months, yet have collected a large assortment of friends.
I want to be able to collect friends like that!

I don't think I have had 300 friends all tolled in my entire life! I don't do parties anymore. I was coerced into doing one Millennium New Years Eve, then the person who convinced me to have a party and hold it at my place decided to spend New Years in Sydney instead. Only about 10% of those who said they would show up bothered to...I was NOT happy.

I don't think I've had 300 friends total either.
I like the parties, but I like going to parties where I already know people and don't have to meet people in order to have someone to talk with.

As for my friends, I understand that the jobs they have put them in contact with lots of people and knowing them they would invite everyone regardless of how well they know them. However, I read through the comments of the people who are attending and there are enough inside commentaries that these people are more than just passing aquaintances. It's just weird for me and envy making. I'd like to make friends that easily.

The strangest part is you are one of THE most likeable people I have met on LJ. Also, even though you haven't been around a long time, you are one of my closest friends in both LJ and the world. Given you have won over this stone bastard, who barriers up to the sky for his own protection, I am amazed there isn't a 4 year waiting list to just say "hello" to you.

Let's apply my theory on love at first sight to friends. I think it works in the same way, there are just some people that for some odd, ungodly reason you are drawn to (or repelled from). Sometimes you just know that they should be in your life. Then you put the wall building, moat digging, fence raising duo together. I friended you because there was just something there and I have finally learned after all these years to listen to my instincts.
