I have to post this question to all the runners and maybe even joggers out there because I simply have to know.

There is a woman in the neighborhood who runs every evening between 5 and 6 p.m. I have no clue where my street is on her daily run path or whether we are at the beginning, middle or end. We refer to her as Orgasm Runner. OK, so that's not nice to call her names, but when she runs through the neighborhood you can hear her coming from 3 blocks away, pun intended. She sounds like a woman in the throes of passion - she moans, she grunts and has on several occasions yelled things like "Oh god!" and "yes!". Maybe she really is having an orgasm while she runs. However, this is the first person I've ever seen/heard running where they make more sound than the heavy breathing of exertion.

Is this common for running? She's really fast, so it's kind of neat to watch her swoosh by the house. Last night I got to watch her in the rear view mirror, the white shirt she was wearing went from a wee speck to a blur to a wee speck in the distance as she continued down the road.

Maybe she's wearing vibrating panties... or a strategically placed "vibrating bullet" to make her run more enjoyable?

I don't run unless I am about to be hit by a car or are being chased, so I have no idea, however, I have never heard of that before.

Now the vibrating panties might motivate me to take up jogging.

I don't run either so this is a really bizarre form of entertainment for me. One that I might have to video one day so that I can share with the masses.

Ooooh! Yeah, record it, that would be cool. Haha! I wanna see this runner. :D Could you imagine though... I mean, it's bizarre sounding.

It all started with some tennis players. it comes from new fashion trend of wearing your G-string backwards ;)

Interesting... *ponders the thought* I never would have thought to do that and go jogging. ;)

I've heard about this phenomena, but you should really ask Chris. He's training for a marathon. Tell him I sent ya.

It's possible that's how she sounds when she's pushing herself. Once, for the last 2 miiles of a race (30k/18.6mi), one woman running near me groaned loudly every time her left foot hit the ground. But she seemed to be in a lot of pain. I had gotten used to hearing the occasional grunts and moans of some male runners over the years but this was the first time I heard it from a woman.

I mentioned to someone else that I was going to have to film her running by one day because I really want someone else to see her and explain to me what's going on. She mystifies me. And if she is in pain, the pain has lasted for the past 2 years. Personally I think that's a sign to ease up on the self-torture. Spoken like a true non-runner.

You never know...some runners (maybe the less hardcore ones?) will advocate for running slower at a lower exertion level for a longer distance. Then as you get stronger, you'll be able to run that distance using less effort so you get faster for the short distances and build up strength to go longer too. As in most things, lots of people will debate the relative efficiencies of different training strategies.

I used to hate running - I find it a little repetitive.

That said - having read your comment - think its time to dig out my ole roadside trainers and maybe give it a try.

Now that I'm laughing my head off with the chinese love beads answer, run a lap or two for me please.

for what it's worth, I've heard of female cyclists doing something similar on long rides to help keep themselves entertained. I don't know if it was a true story or just someone's fantasy though.
