I guess that means you [livejournal.com profile] ajayne since I know you use paperbackswap.com.

So when you have a book that is requested and the requestor has conditions for accepting the book, do you a) really want to get rid of the book, so make sure that your book definitely meets the requestor's conditions or b) figure that someone else will request the book without conditions so save it for later?

I guess I'm a bit annoyed because I've posted 8 books this week that were all on someone's wishlist. Which is nice because I know that the book isn't going to sit around here. But about half of the requests had weird ass restrictions. The non-smoking, non-cat/dog/pet, non-library request I understand. Those can be serious issues for some people. And other things like dirty books and torn covers, I understand. However, I'd like for the people who use those restrictions to be a little nicer in their words. They're a bit hostile. But I had one this week that was "no books that look previously read". Ummm, hello, this is a book swapping community. And today was the "I don't accept books from smoking or pet homes." - OK - "Nor do I accept bookcrossing.com books". For some reason today, that last line ticked me off. I would hope that most people wouldn't send out books that they wouldn't want to get. Anyway, I guess I'm complaining to complain.

I have gotten some weird "restrictions" as well on some books I have on my list. I'll just hang on to it longer rather than sending it to someone with a lot of weird restrictions. The "no previously read" one is really stupid given that this is a book swapping site. That would just make me want to dog-ear the pages really badly. Book Crossing books are no biggie - I wonder why someone would not want those!? I put a couple restrictions on my book requests - I have the smoke free one because I just cannot stand the smell of cigar/cigarette/pipe smoke on things in my house. And the excessive writing/notes in the margins, I tend to not want either - which may be trivial, but but I have gotten some books where nearly every page is highlighted completely or underlined. (These people are obviously not good at picking out the important info - haha!)

OK, I am babbling.

I didn't have any restrictions until after almost every book I posted this week had some weird restriction to it. This morning was that moment of "how ridiculous can this get?" So, I tried to make my restriction a bit user-friendly and put that I didn't want any book that you (the sender) would not want to receive. And the excessive writing in the margins, I don't want either, but the few books that I've requested when I knew that might be a problem I've asked about before hand.

How was Relay? Especially now that it's over. :)

I ordered a book for Joe's niece and every page was highlighted - I don't want to give it to her - not a gift, but just because she wanted it and I thought I would look for it. I wasn't happy when I got it. I don't care if it looks used, but that was a but bad. :D But yeah, I don't want a book that "you" don't want to receive either.

I am SO GLAD relay is over. It was good and I got to see my friends again, but so, so, so glad it's over - as you know from my post.
