Saturday RTL and I went to a party that her team at work had been planning for quite a while. It was a BBQ party - mmmmm, burgers and hot dogs. It seems that everyone on the team hosts some sort of get together once a month or so. Also, one of RTL's co-workers is going to Germany for the next 2 months to work, so add going away party to all of the above.
Everybody brought their kids and babies. Although, I think I'm losing my touch. Usually, all the kids flock to me. The past couple of times we've had the same group, nothing, not one "come play with me". I don't think I'm upset about this though. It's nice to enjoy the adult conversation and not end up the babysitter.
Tracy lives up on a mountain. OK, she would argue with that, so let me explain. The people that we know out here either live in San Fran or they live across a bridge. We are one of the few that doesn't live up in the hills. Everyone who had been to Tracy's house before kept saying "she lives out in the middle of nowhere". I know about being out in the middle of nowhere, I didn't think Tracy could live there. I stand corrected - Tracy lives out in the middle of nowhere. Her directions stated clearly to drive through 5 towns before reaching the turn off where she lives. And then you drive UP the mountain. Talk about parking on the side of a cliff. Of course, the house is basically built into the side of the mountain, so you have to walk up the front stairs in batches. It's beautiful out where she lives. We even were able to see three deer walking down the road.
The adventure was in getting off Tracy's mountain. It's a one way road that circles, so we followed the circle. We followed the circle to the point where the road was no longer maintained by the city. Gravel road hugging the side of the mountain and steep incline down. I'm not sure how you can get lost on a one way street on the side of a mountain, but we were. And RTL, the chick who braved the Champs d'Elysee in rush hour traffic and took over the Amalfi Coast when I broke down in tears, was seconds away from freaking out. Go figure. Hey, I offered to drive. We finally got back on a maintained road and realized that we were literally back where we started. Which finally prompted a phone call to Tracy to find out how to get off the mountain.
We got home ok. I did end up driving the rest of the way. It was an eye opener though to watch RTL, who is usually the one who doesn't freak out in new driving conditions, almost break. I've gotten better, but RTL is horrific at giving directions so I'd rather let her drive than tell me I was suppose to make a left turn five miles behind us.
