I have to find a frickin' wireless network adapter that will work with my Mac without hanging it up and is compatible with my Tivo. Blast technology! And I don't get why the new wireless adapters are dirt cheap, but the old ones that will probably work are either unavailable or cost an arm and a leg. I should just say "screw it" until Tivo gets their act together and makes transfer software that works with a Mac. Ahhhh! I'm just turning off the tv so I don't have to think about it.

Believe it or not we don't even have tivo in this country. Most people haven't even heard of it, so if you get blank looks here if/when you mention it, don't take it personally. I only know about it from the trip to the US last year, so I don't even know if we have it in the pipelines :(

That's so odd. It always seemed to me that every other non-third world country had all the cool stuff before America did.

Example - cell phones. When we were traveling in 2001, everybody had a cell phone in Europe. Cheap too. Hell, everyone in Turkey had one. America + cell phone = you were really lucky. When we got back, the cell phone craze here was similar to everywhere else.

It may also be a good thing that Australia doesn't have tivo. Less time spent on the couch.

I remember a mate saying he loved the US with cell phones. He said you were almost all on analogue and they thought he was mega rich because his was digital. The thing is Australia has been digital for over 10 years now.

It seems completely strange to go visit other places and then realize that the one country that all the poor countries think is the greatest place in the world has the crappiest technology. And yes, your mate is correct. Digital has only gotten cheap and easily accesible in the last 2 years. Sickly, I know people who are still using the great big old bag phones.

My mate, I shall call him Rob, as that is his name *GRIN*, was/is a real gadget boy. I haven't seen him years so I assume he still is. He had a car phone in 1992 for example.

While he was in the States he got this car alarm. When you touched the car a computerised voice, similar to KITT from Nightrider would speak. It said "Please move away, I am feeling violated" then if you continued touching it said "I will retaliate if you don't cease". Finally it went into 'attack mode' and sprayed boiling water (from the radiator) at the would be thief/unsuspecting parking inspector!

He bought it. I think it was the gimmick and the fact he had a $40,000 stereo unit in his car, which, given this was 1992, was a LOT more money than it is these days.

Damn! that's a lot of money for a stereo unit. Those car alarms annoy me. Especially when the parking area is tight so you have to rub up against the next car to get to yours. However, I love the "Please move away, I am feeling violated" I might have to use that one.

I love gadgets and new fangled gizmos, but there comes a point where you have to decide whether you want to eat for the month or have some new toy to play with.
