These are the shoes that I found at DSW that I really, really, really wanted but didn't get the first time because I was unsure of the heel slippage I was having. Thank goodness they make those heel-hugger thingies because now all is right in my shoe world.

Yep, almost impractical and will hardly go with a darn thing, but they make me happy.

Looking for a fairly inexpensive, comfortable shoe to tool around town in this summer? May I suggest these from Land's End.

I've been staring at these in their multitude of colors for a couple of months now and decided to buy a pair for the Alaska trip. I packed my trusty New Balance ones in case these babies didn't work out, but lo and behold I think I'm in love. They are lightweight and airy. I can slip them on and because they don't have shoelaces, don't come untied. I can wear them with socks or without. And look ma! no blisters! They are wide enough to allow my toes to spread but narrow enough that they don't slip on my heels. The bottomline is that they are almost as comfortable as being barefoot. My fat little feet love them. Now I'm going to buy more colors to match all of my outfits.

I'm thinking about turning on the heat. Although I'll probably end up curling up on the couch with the marine blanket while I eat breakfast. I guess I should at least go put on a pair of socks.

This was a pretty good weekend. RTL and I finally hung our first door. I do need to plane down a little on the edge where it is sticking, but other than that it looks great. Now we just have to go buy 9 more doors and get to work.

Saturday, we went and saw the new Harry Potter movie. We liked it very much. I didn't realize until we were at the theatre that the movie was reater PG-13. So much for ratings, it was 50% over 25 and 50% under 13 in the theatre. RTL and I had bets on how many kids would need to leave and how many would leave in tears. We didn't win the number of kids that would leave, we were off by two, but we hit the number who would leave in tears. The movie was a little scary in places. I had to cover my eyes a couple of times. Now I need to go back and reread book 4.

We also went into the city so RTL could get a haircut before we go east. I ended up walking down to Union Square to do a little shopping. I needed to go to Crate and Barrel to replace drinking glasses that I've broken and wanted to look at iPod cases at Mac. My glasses were still in stock so that was a fast trip. I finally found an iPod case that I really liked. I went into Sephora too. Sephora is a weakness of mine. I left before buying out the store. I was also looking for a snazzy pair of shoes to wear with my jeans. Something that looks better than my sneakers but not so casual as my flip flops. *sigh* I really wanted to buy shoes. RTL was really surprised when I showed up with shopping bags but not shoes. I tried on about 25 pairs of shoes and nothing looked or fit the way I wanted them to fit. I did find a pair of Marc Jacobs shoes that I really liked, but then I saw the $359 price tag on them. I couldn't even justify trying them on because if they looked great, I wasn't going to buy them. I just want to fun pair of shoes, without a 3 mile heel and a heel that isn't the size of soda can. Yep, that's what I found - big clunky heels that were no less than 3 inches. Not that I want stillettos either, but there has got to be something inbetween.

I have many things to do so I should get started.

That's right, RTL is in Germany. She's been eating hamburgers in Hamburg. (hee hee) She just called and I'm having a fabulous time laughing at her. I wish I could share the voice she did as she told me about telling the group the Kennedy "I'm a doughnut" story. I'll be laughing at that voice for days.

The really funny goof was going into the wrong bathroom because she couldn't figure out which was the men's room and which was the ladies. She went to wash her hands and there was a man washing his hands. So she hid out in the stall until he left. When she walked out of the bathroom, the receptionist saw her and starting laughing. In the telling of the story, this is the point where I was about to die laughing, so I asked "you know enough German, why couldn't you figure it out by breaking the word down?" The answer "because Vicky said it was the 4th door on the left and I went into the 4th door on the left". Somehow I don't think that she should trust the people that she works with too much.

They are off to Amsterdam tomorrow. It sounds like they have a lot of free time while they are there. Ed, who grew up there, is going to show them around and take them through the Hague. I'm kind of jealous about that. Going to the Aalsmeer Flower Market too and Vicky has convinced RTL to go to the Anne Frank house again.

And another thing.
She says: My suitcase weighs a ton and I haven't bought anything for you yet.
Me: I just want flower bulbs, cheese and chocolate. What have you put in it to make it weigh so much?
Her: I have a ton of shoes.
Me: It's not my fault you took seven pairs of shoes.
Her: I bought more shoes.
Me: I knew you bought two pairs in Spain, that shouldn't be enough to make much of a difference.
Her: I bought more.
Me: How many pair of shoes have you bought? (afraid now because she bought 9 pairs in Brazil)
Her: seven
Me: Why the fuck did you buy 7 pairs of shoes?
Her: I didn't really buy 7 pairs, but telling you I did was worth it. (laughs at me)
Me: You're evil.
Her: I am the source.

So she has already bought 3 pairs of shoes (+7) and she has her eye on 2 more pairs. I'm going to have to build a wing onto the house for the shoe fetish. And I'm really afraid to see how many shoes she ends up bringing back .
